#21: Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights
I sometimes wish I could go back in time and spend time with the Bronte sisters. I always imagine that they all sat around and wrote their novels, occasionally reading lines for each other. I believe that Wuthering Heights has become so popular in our culture mostly due to idealized romance between Heathcliff and Catherine. At the root of the appeal of their relationship is the fact that Heathcliff is a bad boy through and through, and disturbs Catherine’s sheltered upbringing completely. This book has become a part of the 18th century fiction canon, and while it’s not one of my personal favorites, I still enjoy it.
